Description
For my second year at university, it began by studying a chosen project and then writing an analysis on it. We were also tasked with making a model of the project. I chose the Okurayama Apartments, which were designed by SANAA in Japan and constructed in 2008. I found this project fascinating and unique.
The second term was then our first large scale design project. It was a co-living residential space for students with a central purpose behind it. I chose to include theatre as the main education background and included and large amphitheatre into the centre of the building. This allows for the residents and the public to access and express themselves freely and openly.
In the final term we were tasked with designing a ‘Happy’ fire station with a particular meaning behind it alongside writing a manifesto. The manifesto would be then backed by a video which presented visual imagery behind this meaning. I chose to base mine on the theatre production ‘Hadestown’. Where the fire station is clad in copper to symbolise the gates of hell.
